Fact-finding committee investigates large embezzlement case

Speaking to ICANA on Sunday on the sidelines of Majlis special session on the recent fraud case in the banking system, Bahonar said: "over the past two to three weeks, we have been witnessing a series of inconsistent news and information in the media about the embezzlement case, and every one is making his own suspicions leading to much ambiguity in the public opinion.

Bahonar added: "appointing the persecutor general to investigate the issue was in fact a solid step taken by the head of the judiciary Ayatollah Amoli Larijani and can be regarded as a positive gesture in this regard."

Referring to the special session held in the parliament over the recent case, Bahonar said: "During the closed-door session of the Majlis, the officials from the country's banking system were invited to clarify the case, but concluding on the reports needs more time."

Deputy Speaker of the Parliament added: "we try to form a special fact-finding committee based on a legal process to thoroughly investigate the case and make proper conclusions."

He also noted that the public has the right to be informed about various dimensions of such a large case, but the media professionals should also avoid exaggerating the issue in a manner that distorts the public confidence altogether.

The member of the Parliament Social Commission expressed hope that the government, parliament and judiciary system can look into the issue in a fair and calm atmosphere and in a close cooperation with each other.

High ranking economic officials including "Shamseddin Hosseini," Minister of Economics and Finance, "Mahmoud Bahmani," the head of Iran's Central Bank, "Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi," the Inspector General of the judiciary, and "Mohammad Jahromi," the CEO of the Iranian Saderat Bank , came to the parliament on Sunday in order to clarify the dimensions of the large embezzlement case in the banking system.
