Syria's case differs from Bahrain and Yemen

In his press conference on Monday, Larijani described the external dimensions of the developments in Syria as an important element in analyzing the situation on the ground and said: "the developments in Syria are different from what is happening in countries like Bahrain and Yemen."

Larijani further noted: "Syrian authorities should fully respect the demands of the people inside the country, and the process of reforms which has already started is a good sign of progress."

Referring to the external meddling in Syria as an important factor, Larijani said: "some of the countries of the region are said to be smuggling weapons to Syria to help anti-government rebels"

"By sending weapons and assistance to the Syrian rebels, these governments are fomenting the crisis, while they are facing numerous challenges in terms of the rights of minorities and women inside their own territories."

"Those meddling in Syria are still not familiar with democracy and their parliamentary systems are still based on the wish of Emirs and not the people," Larijani added.
