Iranian parliament dispatches delegation to Vatican tonight

TEHRAN, Sept 26 (ICANA) – An Iranian parliamentary delegation, formed of four clergy MPs, will leave Tehran for a five-day visit to the Vatican tonight.

The delegation comprises Isfahan's Deputy Hojjatol-Eslam Mohammad Taqi Rahbar, Neishabour's representative Hojjatol-Eslam Hossein Sobahani-Nia, Tehran's deputy Hojjatol-Eslam Gholam-Reza Mesbahi-Moghaddam and Birjand's deputy Hojjatol-Eslam Hossein Ebrahimi.

All the four are members of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (parliament)'s clergies fraction.

During the trip, the Iranian delegation is due to attend meetings with top Vatican officials and élites to discuss religion, relations among divine religions and other issues of mutual interest.

The Iranian delegation will also pay visits to several academic and scientific centers in the Vatican.

Iran and the Vatican have long had good ties and interactions. The two sides' cooperation mostly pertain to culture, media, gatherings and exhibitions.

In June, the Vatican sent Archbishop Edmond Farhat, who is the official representative of Vatican politics, to Tehran to attend the international conference on global campaign against terrorism.
