The resolution was issued in the 125th assembly of the IPU in the Swiss capital of Bern after considering complaints lodged by Palestinian parliamentarians against the Israeli regime, said spokesman for Iran's Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Kazem Jalali, on Saturday, IRNA reported.

According to Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics and prisoner advocacy groups, there are currently over 6000 Palestinian prisoners, including legislators, in Israeli jails, many of whom have been rounded up without charge or trial.

The Iranian lawmaker further explained that the cases are examined in two stages by the committee before any resolution is issued.

He noted that the body also consisted of representatives from Africa, Europe, and North and South Americas and convened four times a year to examine cases brought against the human rights situation in different countries.

Jalali, who serves as the representative of the Asia-Pacific region on IPU's five-member Human Rights Committee, added that the body had processed over 300 complaint cases in recent days.

Parliament representatives from more than 120 countries are scheduled to exchange views on a variety of political, economic, and social issues during the four-day IPU session, which started on Sunday.

The IPU is an international organization established in 1889 to promote democracy and inter-parliamentary dialogue in close contact with the United Nations.
