Iran will help Kyrgyzstan go down the path of democracy

Larijani made the remarks during a meeting with Kyrgyz President Roza Otunbayeva in Bishkek on Wednesday.

Larijani expressed satisfaction with the fact that Kyrgyzstan is successfully undergoing the process of democratization, saying, “It is a step forward toward the independence of the country. The Islamic Republic of Iran stands by you and supports you.”

Otunbayeva said that Kyrgyzstan, despite difficulties, has not strayed from the path of democracy and said, “We thank God that the Kyrgyz nation has been able to achieve its goals, namely the establishment of peace and security and the elimination of dictators.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Larijani commented on relations between the two countries, saying, “The Islamic Republic of Iran has good cooperation with certain neighboring countries in constructing power plants and dams and has achieved good results. We are ready to cooperate with the Kyrgyz Republic in this regard.”

He also called for the expansion of Tehran-Bishkek ties in all spheres.

On the tide of popular uprisings rolling across the Middle East and North Africa region, Larijani said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran supports the freedom-seeking movements in Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Bahrain, and Yemen because it believes that these protests are calling for the restoration of the rights of the people and democracy.”

The people of the region have become fed up with dictators who are subservient to the hegemonistic powers, Larijani stated, adding, “Certain major countries have been seeking to obstruct these popular movements. Adopting such a stance has discredited them, and today Yemeni people regard the U.S. green light (to the Yemeni government) as the reason behind the killings in the region.”

The United States is also creating stumbling blocks in the way of Iran’s nuclear progress although Tehran has repeatedly emphasized the peaceful nature of its nuclear program, he added.

Larijani also criticized the double-standard approach that certain countries have adopted toward Iran and said, “The U.S. has no problem with nuclear weapons possessed by the Zionist regime because this regime is its ally in the region.”

He also advised the arrogant powers to not impose their opinions on other countries.
