Sarvati criticizes Culture Ministry for reactionary policies

In an interview with ICANA on Sunday, Sarvati said: "The number of the libraries in the country is less than what the Iranian population needs."

He further noted: "There are many challenges existing in terms of publication and distribution of the books indicating that the ministry of culture and Islamic guidance has a poor record in this regard."

Referring to Iran's absence in this year's Frankfurt international Book fair, he said: "Prestigious international events are regarded as a very good opportunity for publishers and writers to offer their works."

"The ministry should play a more active role in book and cinema markets and justifications are not acceptable in this regard," he concluded.
