Iran proposal basis of future N-talks

“Iran has never abandoned the negotiating table and has always called for dialogue,” IRNA quoted the Spokesmen for the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission as saying on Monday.

In a letter to Tehran on Friday, EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton said if Iran is ready to discuss concrete confidence-building measures without preconditions, the P5+1 - Britain, China, France, Russia, and the United States plus Germany - “would be willing to agree on a next meeting within the coming weeks at a mutually convenient venue."

Ashton added that the goal of the talks "remains a comprehensive negotiated, long-term solution which restores international confidence in the exclusively peaceful nature" of Iran's nuclear program.

Jalali added, however, that the talks will have to pursue a particular aim, be conducted within a specific framework and be conducive to results.

“Otherwise the talks will just be a waste of time,” he said.

Iranand the P5+1 held two rounds of multifaceted talks in Geneva in December 2010 and in the Turkish city of Istanbul last January.

Tehransays it is prepared to continue the talks but will not make concessions on its nuclear rights.
