US suffers political helplessness

In interviews with the Persian language services of the state-run BBC and Voice of America on Wednesday, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that Washington plans to launch a "virtual embassy" for Iran, which will give Iranians online information about visa applications and student exchange programs despite the lack of formal diplomatic ties between the Islamic Republic and the United States.

She added that the "virtual embassy" website would be launched by the end of the year.

On Thursday, the Iranian Majlis speaker deplored remarks by the US secretary of state, saying her comments should not be taken seriously.

USDemocrats are currently facing domestic issues including economic problems and the election, Larijani further said, IRIB reported.

He noted that popular uprisings in the Middle East and North Africa have also led to Israel's isolation. So, the Zionist lobby has adopted measures to break this isolation, Larijani added.

Pointing to Clinton's remarks about the US support for aspirations of the Iranian people, Larijani said that the US secretary of state should know that the recent regional uprisings were the outcome of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.

The top Iranian parliamentarian emphasized that such remarks would strengthen national unity among the Iranian nation, and urged the US officials to reconsider their behavior.
