Larijani slams false claims on bank scam

In investigating this case, [if] any individual in any branches of the Iranian government or other positions meddles in the case, Iran's prosecutor general is duty-bound to examine the issue, said Larijani in the Majlis open session on Tuesday.

There is no doubt in this regard, he emphasized, IRNA reported.

However, this issue should not be used as a pretext by individuals to give false information to others and create a “destructive” atmosphere, Larijani pointed out.

The top Iranian parliamentarian stressed that the embezzlement scandal case should be examined in an honest atmosphere.

Larijani's remarks come as the Majlis began an open session to review and discuss the qualification of the country's Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Shamseddin Hosseini following an impeachment motion submitted by 28 lawmakers.

The legislators who have signed the motion for the impeachment of the economy minister have said that the move is mainly aimed at assuring the Iranian nation that a firm attitude will be adopted toward the recent 2.6-billion-dollar banking scam in the country.

Under the Iranian Constitution, members of the Majlis can impeach an individual minister in instances they deem necessary. Impeachment can be submitted if it bears the signatures of at least ten lawmakers.
