MPs reject Motahari's resignations

Motahari addressed the lawmakers during the open session of the parliament on Wednesday, but his resignation failed to get the majority of the votes.

Of the 199 votes cast, 155 MPs voted against Motahari's resignation, 33 voted to it, and 12 abstained.

Motahhari tendered his resignation to the Majlis in protest at the fact that it did not confirm the receipt of a motion to summon President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the parliament to answer lawmakers’ questions about violation of law by the administration.

The Majlis Presiding Board acknowledged the receipt of Ali Motahhari’s letter of resignation on October 23.

Motahari is now supposed to resume his regular activities as the representative of the Tehran, Ray, Eslamshahr and Shemiranat constituency in the Iranian Parliament.
