Majlis drops bid to question Ahmadinejad

Member of the Majlis Presiding Board Mohammad-Hossein Farhangi said on Wednesday that the motion now carries only 70 signatures and falls short of the legal quorum needed to summon the president.

Under the Iranian Constitution, at least a quarter of lawmakers or 73 must back the move to summon the president for questioning, Fars News Agency reported.

Article 89 of the Constitution also stipulates that if Majlis gives three written warnings that the government has violated the law, the president or his ministers can be impeached.
