Resolutions fail to isolate Iran

“The US must realize that it cannot isolate Iran by issuing numerous resolutions,” the member of Iran's Majlis (parliament) Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy said on Friday.

Karami-Rad said the US has undoubtedly failed in its attempts to refer Tehran's nuclear case to the UN Security Council as Russia and China immediately objected the motion and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) voiced its support for the Islamic Republic' peaceful atomic activities, Mehr News Agency reported.

Referring to other failed anti-Iran scenarios developed by the US, Karami-Rad said Washington did not succeed in its latest efforts either, as the case fell short of garnering the support of all the member-states of the Board of Governors.

On Friday, the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) Board of Governors passed its new resolution on Iran's nuclear activities in which it voiced “deep and increasing concern” over Tehran's atomic program.

The resolution also called on the Islamic Republic and the IAEA to intensify dialogue to resolve the dispute over the country's nuclear program. However, it stopped short of reporting Iran to the UNSC or setting a deadline for Tehran to comply.

The US, Britain and France included a request in the resolution which instead asks IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano to report to the Board of Governors in March on Tehran's “implementation of this resolution.”
