US seeks to portray Iran as rogue state

Tehran, Nov 25 (ICANA) – Deputy Chairman of Iran's Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh says the US is attempting to portray Iran as a 'rogue state' in the international community by issuing threats against it or subjecting it to sanctions.

US seeks to portray Iran as rogue state

“Regarding sanctions, the US has been pursuing a strategy in recent years dubbed pioneering sanctions, which, at times, are measures adopted in addition to the UN resolutions,” Falahatpisheh said on Thursday.

“If the UN passes a resolution, the US announces additional sanctions and some Western countries adopt the same measures, following the [policy] line pursued by Washington,” the Iranian lawmaker added.

Falahatpisheh said another US-led anti-Iran strategy was 'pre-resolution sanctions,' whereby those leading the measure would impose penalties in a politically-charged atmosphere and amid propaganda and then introduce it as a draft for a new resolution against the Islamic Republic.

Referring to the measures recently taken against Iran by the US, the Iranian legislator said Washington started imposing sanctions against Tehran's oil sector in 1995.
