Guardian council approves downgrading ties with UK

"The bill on downgrading Iran's relations with the UK sent to the body was examined and it was approved after it was not considered in contradiction with the constitution and Islamic rules," he told ISNA.

The bill was approved by the council just one day after parliament passed the draft which compels the government to expel the British ambassador.

Iran's Parliament on Sunday voted overwhelmingly to downgrade diplomatic and economic relations with Britain. The move comes after Britain severed financial ties with Iranian banks on Tuesday, accusing them of facilitating the country's nuclear program.
