Larijani urges national unity in Iraq

In a Tuesday meeting with Chairman of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI) Ammar Hakim in the Iranian capital of Tehran, Larijani lauded the growing political and security developments in Iraq.

The implementation of long-term and strategic projects between Iran and Iraq in various economic, industrial and energy fields will be a major stride toward strengthening mutual relations, the Iranian speaker added.

He described as “very important” the “timely and comprehensive” implementation of agreements already signed by Tehran and Baghdad.

The top Iranian parliamentarian also reiterated that parliamentary cooperation between the two countries would play a significant role in developing sustainable ties and added that Majlis would spare no effort to further promote such relations.

Larijani went on to say that popular revolutions in the region were proven to be a strategic development in regional and international equations, stressing that Iraq has the capacity to play a key role in regional events thanks to its considerable political and economic potential.

Hakim, for his part, said Iraq is determined to expand amicable relations with Iran in all fields, adding that close ties between Tehran and Baghdad can serve as a model for other regional nations.

The ISCI chairman also emphasized that the withdrawal of foreign troops from Iraq would help the country establish better security.
