Larijani expels Govt. rep. from Majlis

During a Tuesday Majlis session to elucidate Article 12 of a law on the subsidy reform, a verbal and physical quarrel erupted between Subsidy Reform Director Behrouz Moradi and a legislator from the eastern Iranian city of Fariman, Hossein Hossieni.

The bitter squabble transpired after Hosseini delivered a speech which was harshly critical of the way the government subsidy plan had been implemented.

Moradi then reacted to the lawmaker's bitter rhetoric by making “rude remarks,” prompting a “physical scuffle” between the two, leading Speaker Larijani to order the expulsion of the government representative from the Majlis floor.

The subsidy reform plan charts out how the Iranian government will gradually slash national energy subsidies over the course of five years, with low-income families being compensated directly with cash subsidies.
