Spokesman for the Guardian Council Abbas Ali Kadkhodaei said on Friday that the qualifications of more hopefuls would be reviewed by February 10, when the final result of the vetting process is made known.

Iran's Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar announced on December 30, 2011 that 5,395 hopefuls, including 4,967 men and 428 women, had registered their candidacy.

The registration for the ninth Majlis poll began with an opening ceremony attended by Iran's Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar and several senior Iranian officials in the capital Tehran on December 24, 2011.

The last parliamentary elections in Iran were held in 2008, in which the Principlist bloc won the majority of Majlis seats.
