Pakistani Parliament likely to pass resolution on US ties

Islamabad, April 11 (Agencies) - The joint session of the Pakistani parliament is set to pass resolution on the recommendations about the future relationship with the United States and NATO this week, official sources told Online on Tuesday.

The PPP leadership and its allied group have asked their members to ensure participation its members joint session in the coming days.

The ruling coalition is hopeful of adoption of the resolution with majority and with consensus.

The government Tuesday handed over amended draft of the recommendations to its allies and opposition groups, including Muslim League-N.

Parliamentary sources said that the government has no problem from the allies and is also hopeful of support from the PML-N as its reservations over the previous draft have been removed.

The PML-N leader Mehtab Abbasi says his party is likely to discuss the amended draft in two days.

The JUI-F has not yet given opposition to the draft resolution despite the government’s efforts to persuade the party to end its boycott of the committees. JUI-F says that the government has already taken decision on restoration of NATO supply line and is using the parliament as a tool.

Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar Tuesday denied any decision has taken about the NATO supply line.

The joint session was started on March 20 but the house has just help brief debate on the issue. Other important issues and differences over the recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security have delayed debate and adoption of the resolution.
