Principlists call for high turnout in run-off parliamentary election

Tehran, April 14 (ICANA) – The Combatant Clergy Association and the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom issued a joint statement on Saturday calling for a high turnout in run-off parliamentary election.

The statement was signed by two prominent principlist figures, namely Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Mahdavi Kani, secretary general of the Combatant Clergy Association and head of the Assembly of Experts, and Ayatollah Mohammad Yazdi, chairman of the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom and a member of the association.  

 They also thanked the people for turning out in large numbers for the first round of the parliamentary election on March 2.

In addition, they expressed support for the candidates fielded by the United Front of Principlists for the run-off election.  

The second round of the ninth Majlis election will be held in Tehran and 32 other constituencies on May 4.

Two hundred and twenty five parliamentary seats were decided in the first round of the election on March 2. In the second round of election the remaining 65 seats will be decided.      

According to the law, each candidate must win a fourth of the votes in his or her constituency to be elected as lawmaker in the first round to serve a four-year term.
