Tehran, April 30 (ICANA) – Chairman of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi dismissed foreign media reports alleging that Tehran might intend to accept the Additional Protocol to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), stressing that a study of the protocol by the parliament is impossible.

Parliament not to study additional protocol

Joining the Additional Protocol "is an issue which needs be discussed and decided in the Islamic Consultative Assembly (parliament), while the parliament has already ratified an approval which requires an end to discussions about its acceptance", Boroujerdi said on Monday.

He rejected certain foreign media speculations that Tehran might reconsider its decision on joining the Additional Protocol, and said nothing special has happened in the realm of action which could spur such speculations.

His remarks came after a number of western media alleged that Iran would ratify the additional protocol and commit to more IAEA inspections if, at the next round of talks with the world powers in Baghdad, there is an acknowledgment of Iran's nuclear rights and sanctions against it are lifted.
