Cleric urges maximum public turnout in run-off parliamentary elections

Similar to the first round, people's participation in the second round of the (parliamentary) elections will result in the (ruling) system's power and honor," Secretary of the Guardian Council Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati said on Friday.

"Our people will win dignity in the world with their massive participation in the second round of the elections and the world can witness that how much the Iranian nation is loyal to its system and law," Ayatollah Jannati stated, adding that the world is closely watching Iran's elections and is waiting to see what is happening in Iran today.

Constitutionally, the GC is in charge of vetting election candidates for presidency, parliament and the Assembly of Experts. It is also tasked with supervising the electoral process.

The remarks by the senior cleric came after Iranian interior minister said that public participation in the current round of the elections seems to be much higher than the run-off votes in the previous elections.
