People urge parliament to take swift action to release abducted engineers

The gathering, which included the family members of the abducted engineers, in a letter to the Commission renewed the call for the freedom of the seven engineers who were kidnapped by unknown armed gunmen on their way to the 450-MW power plant in the troubled Syrian city of Homs on December 21.

The family members of the abducted engineers had also last month gathered in front of the UN office in Tehran to urge the world body's cooperation in releasing them.

Seven Iranian engineers and technicians who were working at Jandar Electrical Power Plant were kidnapped by armed bandits who are fighting against the Syrian central government.

The technicians have been building the city's Jandar power plant for the past two years.

Iranians have become the target of abduction by unknown gunmen in Syria over the past few months.
