Tehran, May 10, (ICANA) – Head of Iran's Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Alaeddin Boroujerdi has strongly condemned the latest bomb attacks that rocked Syria's capital Damascus, calling on the UN Security Council (UNSC) to hold an emergency meeting over the incident.

UNSC supposed to act on terror attacks against Syria

On Thursday, Boroujerdi called the indiscriminate killing of civilians "reprehensible,” saying that those countries, which were hell-bent on toppling the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, must now be accountable to the public opinion about the bloodshed of the attacks’ innocent victims.

The UNSC is expected to show rapid reaction to developments in Syria and convene an emergency meeting in a bid to stop such acts of terror in the Arab nation, Boroujerdi pointed out.

Meanwhile, Hossein Sheikholeslam, adviser on international affairs to Iran's Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani, said that the terrorist attacks revealed the depth of the despair of the armed groups fighting the Syrian government.

He stressed that the implementation of political and social reforms in Syria will eventually thwart plots hatched by hegemonic powers against the country.

Sheikholeslam also highlighted that anti-government elements were racing against time to plunge Syria into an all-out civil war and unseat a government that is on the anti-Israel resistance front.

He added that arrogant powers sought to break up the anti-Israel resistance front in the Middle East and install a puppet and pro-Israel regime in Damascus.
