Tehran, May 21, (ICANA) – Member of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh said that Iran's move to choose Baghdad as the venue of its talks with world powers conveyed a serious message to the regional and world countries about the contents and agenda of the negotiations.

Baghdad talks not merely about nuclear issues

"With choosing Baghdad (as venue of talks), Iran conveyed a serious message to the regional and world countries that it doesn't see nuclear issue as the sole subject of the talks with the Group 5+1 (the US, Russia, France, Britain and China plus Germany) and sees its prestige much higher than nuclear discussions. The choice meant that it is seeking to have a say in a series of regional issues, including what happened in Iraq," Falahatpisheh said on Monday.

The lawmaker said that discussing the issue of Iraq with the West would be a very essential issue "because when the western countries were in Iraq, they claimed that Mesopotamia is the land which determines the fate and developments of the whole region, and these developments would be against the interests of Iran".

"But now that Iran has introduced Iraq as the venue of the talks, this means that it is content with the post-2003 developments in Iraq and the choice displays the strategic in-depth of Iran in the region."

He said that Iran also sought to show its might to some certain biased Arab states which want to create crisis in the region against Iran.
