Tehran, July 13, (ICANA) – Spokesman for the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Seyyed Hossein Naqavi-Hosseini says the UN-Arab League Special Envoy on Syria Kofi Annan needs to work closely with Tehran to solve the 16-month Syrian crisis.

Annan needs to work with Iran to end Syria crisis

Naqavi-Hosseini made the remarks on Friday in reaction to recent remarks by the White House spokesman Jay Carney, who alleged that Iran’s role in Syrian developments cannot be positive.

The Iranian lawmaker stated that there is a great deal of difference between Tehran and Washington’s stances on Syria.

“The United States seeks a resolution to the Syria crisis, which serves the interests of the Zionist regime [of Israel]. Iran, on the other hand, seeks a solution that is in the interest of the Syrian nation,” Naqavi-Hosseini said.

The lawmaker added that the US is seeking to exclude Syria from the resistance front against the Zionist regime of Israel, while Iran is trying to bolster the front and, therefore, there is a meaningful difference between the positions of the two countries.

The legislator stated that the US downplays Iran’s positive role in Syria as Tehran’s positions are not in line with the interests of Washington and Tel Aviv.

“The Syrian nation, Muslim world, and countries involved in Syria affairs hold the opinion that Syrian nation must be supported, and saved from foreign intervention and terrorism,” Naqavi-Hosseini pointed out.

He emphasized that both Annan and US officials are well aware that they cannot solve the Syrian crisis without Iran's involvement.
