Tehran, July 16, (ICANA) – Senior Iranian lawmaker Javad Karimi Qoddousi disclosed some contents of a draft bill which, if approved, will require the government to close the Strait of Hormuz to those tankers shipping crude to the countries that support sanctions against Iran, saying if Iran embarks on shutting the waterway, it will be kept closed until all sanctions are annulled.

Majlis mulls motion to close Hormuz Strait

"(Based on the draft bill) the closure of the Strait of Hormuz will continue until the annulment of all the sanctions imposed against Iran, and the government will be allowed to open the Strait only after meeting 14 conditions," Karimi Qoddousi said.

Levying a 3% tariff from ships carrying cargos for oil importing countries (i.e. the US and the Europeans states) will be one of the aforementioned conditions for opening the waterway to oil tankers, he said, adding that the tariff will be wired to the Central Bank of Iran's treasury.

His remarks came as the Iranian lawmakers warned once again that the country would shut the strategic Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf if sanctions against the Islamic Republic increase.
