"Tehran is trusted by the government of Damascus and the opposition groups. Therefore, Tehran’s plan [to host such a meeting] can be [an] effective [solution to crisis]," Haqiqatpour noted on Monday.

Haqiqatpour emphasized that establishing peace and security in the region is Iran's basic policy.

“[Holding] a meeting attended by the Syria’s government and opposition in Tehran will help to create a new Syria [which will be] powerful and independent and based on safeguarding the national interests,” he added.

Haqiqatpour stated that the meeting will prove Iran's influence in solving the regional crisis and will tell the international community that Iran's clout in the region is so high as to allow it to mediate between parties.

The friends of Syria like China, Russia, and Iraq will support Tehran plan and the [ensuing] meeting can end Syrian crisis due to presence of Syria’s friends,” he said.
