Alaeddin Boroujerdi:

OIC extraordinary meeting unlikely to bear results

Tehran, Aug 6, (ICANA) – Chairman of Iran's Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi says it is unlikely that the extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), slated to be held in Mecca, would yield any results, given Saudi Arabia’s hostile stance towards Syria.

OIC extraordinary meeting unlikely to bear results

“Since the beginning of the unrest in Syria, the Arab League and countries such as Saudi Arabia set a bad record of themselves by adopting hostile stances,” Boroujerdi said on Sunday.

“Therefore, it seems unlikely that they intend to take steps to resolve the Syrian unrest,” Boroujerdi added.

Boroujerdi further said the reason for Saudi Arabia’s suggestion to hold the summit is the failure of the country’s officials to create tension in Syria.

“Saudi officials along with the Arab League as well as certain regional countries and trans-regional powers such as the US and Britain employed all their capacities to fuel tension in Syria,” Boroujerdi said.

“After facing several defeats in Syria, Saudi Arabia is trying to use the sacred and spiritual atmosphere of Mecca to provoke the public opinion of Muslim nations against Syria,” he added.
