Enhanced Iran-Russia ties to promote regional, global peace

“The two countries share many interests and common views in the international fields which can be the basis for useful and constructive cooperation between Tehran and Moscow,” Larijani said in a meeting with Konstantin Shuvalov, the Russian President Vladimir Putin’s representative at the 16th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), in Tehran on Saturday.

He stressed the importance of bolstering parliamentary cooperation which plays a leading role in the expansion of mutual relations in various political, economic and cultural areas.

The top Iranian parliamentarian emphasized that the Majlis would make use of its utmost potential to boost Iran’s amicable ties with Russia.

The top Russian diplomat, for his part, pointed to Iran's important role in the region and said Tehran has so far played an effective and constructive role in regional and global developments.

He called for close consultation between Iranian and Russian officials regarding the two countries’ common stance on key international issues.

Referring to the ongoing unrest in Syria, Shuvalov said that political dialogue can lead to the establishment of security and peace in Syria.
