“We believe in democratic reform in Syria, but we are also of the opinion that this cannot be done through weapons. But Westerners seek to change the equation to another form,” Larijani said.

He added that Western countries thought that they can resolve the Syria issue in their own interest in a short time; however, it was a “childish” idea.

Syrian officials have also accepted the need for changes and are currently making efforts in this regard, Larijani noted.

The top Iranian parliamentarian also pointed to the 16th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran, noting that the Islamic Republic’s great success in holding the summit has isolated the Israeli regime.

The Israeli regime is currently trying hard to get out of this isolation, Larijani said.

He noted that Iran's power and influence in the region has irked the enemies and raised the West’s concern about the sweeping wave of the Islamic Awakening and regional developments.

Larijani described the NAM summit in Tehran as the “symbol of the Islamic Republic’s very active capacity in the region” and added, “The presence of more than 120 countries in the Tehran summit proved Iran's political and diplomatic success and displayed the movement’s prestige and position to Western countries.”

He emphasized that NAM has a great potential to resolve conflicts among countries and promote global stability.

The Majlis speaker warned against enemies’ strategy to mount pressure on the Iranian nation, particularly Iran's economy and said they seek to decrease the Iranian nation’s influence in the region.
