Arms transfers to insurgents in Syria must stop

“The transfer of weapons to Syria should be stopped; reforms cannot be implemented amid armed confrontations. A package must be introduced for the Syrian issues,” said Larijani at a Friday ceremony in the northern Iranian city of Amol.

Iran calls for the fulfillment of popular demands and the deepening of democracy in Syria, he added.

Larijani pointed out that former UN-Arab League Joint Special Envoy on the Syrian crisis Kofi Annan had warned about some intruding countries which boast of advocating democracy in Syria but are in pursuit of other objectives.

He expressed hope that the UN-Arab League Joint Special Representative for Syria Lakhdar Brahimi will be successful and noted, “He has definitely started work with a clear analysis and certainly knows that some countries seek adventurism in the region.”
