Iran is strongly opposed to N. weapons

"Based on the religious teachings and the Supreme Leader's Fatwa (religious decree) which has banned nuclear arms and Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs), the Islamic Republic of Iran has not sought and will not seek the production and proliferation of such weapons," Larijani said, speaking in a meeting with Chairman of China's Standing Commission of the National People's Congress Wu Bangguo.

He stressed Iran's inalienable right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, and added, "The Islamic Republic of Iran, as one of the founders of a nuclear-free Middle-East, believes that like other member states of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Iran's access to peaceful and knowledge-based nuclear technology is its inalienable right."
