In an interview with ICANA on Wednesday, Boroujerdi said, "The representatives of Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Egypt at the preparatory meeting in Cairo have accepted to retreat from their previous positions on President Assad."

"The second issue which was agreed upon at the meeting was the need to stop the external interference in Syria which has been regarded as the main reason behind the intensification of violence in the country."

The conference on Syria with participation of Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr and Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi ended in the Egyptian capital of Cairo on Monday. Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal was also scheduled to attend the meeting, but his participation was canceled.
