In an interview with ICANA on Wednesday, Sanayi said, "The main reason behind the fall of Georgia's Pro-Western Mikheil Saakashvili was the failure of his anti-Russia policies."

He further noted that over the past few years, the Georgian president resorted to nationalist propaganda to maintain his power.

"During his time in office, Saakashvili created many challenges for his country which was the result of his pro-Western policies and his opposition to Russia," he added.

"Saakashvili's defeat is in fact the end of velvet revolutions in the region," he concluded.
