Addressing the members of the Iranian Parliament on Sunday, Larijani appreciated the Libyan government and parliament for their help and efforts which led to the release of the Iranian nationals.

The kidnapped Iranians were released on Saturday after 65 days and arrived home Sunday morning.

They were in Libya on a humanitarian mission when they were captured by an unknown armed group on July 30, 2012 in the city of Benghazi.

Since then, intensive negotiations were carried out in Tripoli, Tehran, Mecca, and New York for their release.
