Speaking to Afghanistan's Jomhor News on the sidelines of an international conference in Herat, Sheikholeslam categorically denied media reports about signals in Herat Conference by the US and Iranian officials for direct talks between the two sides.

"I categorically reject it," he said, adding that discussions and statements made during the conference only pertained to talks over the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan and not the bilateral ties between Iran and the US.

"During the Herat conference, we did not at all showed any signal of willingness for talks with the US," Sheikholeslam underscored, and added that issues pertaining to the Iran-US ties and differences cover a much wider range, including Iran's peaceful nuclear program and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

"We have had a problem with the United States over the Palestinian-Israeli issue since long time ago," he said, and complained, "They want to impose their will on the Iranian people."
