"Both the US Democrat and Republican presidential nominees know that they have to raise the issue of negotiations between the US and Iran if they want to leave each other behind (in the election)," Ahmadi said on Monday.

Implying that Iran has now become the United States' top foreign policy priority, he said candidates' talks about Iran's nuclear issue during presidential debates "signify Iran's influence and power".

Yet, the lawmaker rejected the recent media hue and cry about direct negotiations between Iranian and American officials, and stated, "Direct talks with the US have in no way been and are not on Iran's agenda and what has been raised in the western media recently is a sheer lie."
