Larijani departs Istanbul for Tehran

Ankara, Nov 24, (ICANA) – Majlis (parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani, who was in Istanbul heading a parliamentary delegation, departed the city for Tehran on Saturday evening.

During his visit to Istanbul, Larijani discussed regional issues with Turkey's premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan and parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek separately and attended Ashura, which is a traditional ceremony of Shia Muslims.

After the meetings, he told reporters that they had discussed ways to settle problems in the region and developments such as victory of Palestinians in Gaza Strip.

He also delivered a speech in Ashura ceremony for tens of thousands of Shia Muslim who had gathered in Istanbul.

Upon his arrival at Istanbul Airport, Larijani was welcomed by Turkey's Shia Muslims leader Salahuddin Uzgunduz and Iran's Ambassador to Turkey Bahman Hosseinpour and a number of Turkey's officials.

Larijani, before visiting Turkey, paid visits to Syria and Lebanon where he met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and expressed Iran's support for Syrian nation.

He also met with his Syrian counterpart as well as leaders of Palestinian groups in Syria.

In Lebanon, Larijani discussed issues of mutual interest with parliament Speaker Nabih berri and Palestinian groups in Lebanon.
