Iran, Pakistan should expand economic ties

“Iran and Pakistan have excellent cooperation on political and religious issues, but now we want this cooperation to be translated into trade ties and the officials of both countries are committed to achieve that objective,” Boroujerdi said.

Boroujerdi made the remarks in a joint press conference with the Chairman of Pakistan’s Senate Standing Commission on Defense and Defense Production Mushahid Hussain Sayed in Islamabad.

For his part, the Pakistani official praised the historic ties between Tehran and Islamabad; and said Boroujerdi’s visit would be “an important turning point in relations between the two parliaments.”

Hussain Sayed added that Tehran and Islamabad had agreed to hold regular parliamentary talks on “bilateral, regional and other security issues.”

The two officials also reaffirmed their commitment to the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project, which is scheduled to be completed by 2014.
