Iran seeks to boost regional peace, stability

“The Islamic Republic of Iran’s policy is to reinforce stability and peace in the region, including in Sri Lanka,” Larijani said in a Sunday meeting with visiting Sri Lankan Minister of Justice Rauff Hakeem.

Larijani expressed satisfaction with the growing trend of cooperation between the two countries especially in the implementation of developmental and economic projects in the South Asian country.

Iran’s vast capacities and capabilities in the economic, technological and scientific fields can support Sri Lanka’s progress and development, Larijani said, adding that Iran’s Majlis backs any measure in these sectors.

Larijani also highlighted the expansion of parliamentary relations between the two countries and said parliamentary cooperation between Iran and Sri Lanka can remove any obstacle to the expansion of ties and help identify new capacities for cooperation in various fields.

Hakeem, for his part, described his talks with Iranian officials as constructive and fruitful and called for further negotiations between the high-ranking officials of the two countries.

The senior Sri Lankan official added that his country attaches great significance to the expansion of all-out cooperation with Iran.
