Washington eager to hold talks with Tehran

"The Americans insisted on holding direct talks with Iran before the recent presidential election in the US and they are (still) interested in it since they know that the Islamic Republic of Iran has the last say in the region," , Boroujerdi said on Saturday.

Describing Iran as an influential power in the region, he said, "They have witnessed the Islamic Republic's might and power in Lebanon, the Middle-East, Gaza, Iraq and Afghanistan and are, therefore, interested in negotiations."

Boroujerdi referred to the three rounds of direct talks between Iran and the US on Iraq in the past, and said if Iran's national interests are met and if the grounds are paved for talks over other topics, then Iran would study the possibility for direct negotiations with the US again.
