Egypt must prevent moves harmful to ties with Iran

On Monday, Boroujerdi urged the Egyptian government to condemn an anti-Iran conference recently held in Cairo and prevent future measures that could undermine the relations between the two countries.

Boroujerdi made the remarks in reference to an anti-Iran conference which was held in Egypt concurrent with the recent visit of Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi to the African country.

“It seems that this measure has been carried out by the radical Salafi elements, who are led by countries such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia and with the aim of preventing the expansion of ties and cooperation between Iran and Egypt,” the Iranian lawmaker added.

“We hope that, despite political and economic problems in the new Egypt, [Egyptian President Mohamed] Morsi does not fall into the trap of such radical groups,” Boroujerdi said.
