In an interview with ICANA on Monday, Ahmadi said, "The Al Khalifa regime is trying to give the impression that the situation in Bahrain is calm and there is no violation of human rights in the country."

"The competition was a good opportunity for oppressed Bahraini people to raise their voice and call upon the international community to protect them against the government crackdown," he said.

"Bahrain's expulsion of three journalists during the tournament indicated that the monarchy has no respect for the freedom of speech and tries to stop the free flow of information to people in other parts of the world," he added.
