Iran-Turkey relations key to regional issues

Forouzandeh made the remarks in a meeting with member of Iran-Turkey Parliamentary Friendship Group Yusuf Halacoglu here on Friday.

“Bilateral cooperation and solidarity can strengthen regional peace and stability and also contribute to safeguarding the territorial integrity of regional countries,” Forouzandeh added.

Turkish lawmaker, for his part, said that close cooperation between Iran and Turkey is the key to resolving crucial issues in the Middle East.

Halacoglu noted that Turkey and Iran are the only two regional countries capable of defeating the imperialist powers’ plots aimed at controlling the rich oil resources of the Middle East and Central Asia.

Pointing to Iran's progress in various fields of science and technology, Halacoglu said, “Iran has faced international threats because of these great achievements, but I believe that the two countries can cooperate constructively to dispel these threats forcefully.”

Forouzandeh is currently on a visit to Ankara at the invitation of Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag.

According to official data released in November 2012, Iran was the third major trade partner of its northwestern neighbor in the first three quarters of 2012.
