Manama must respect people's demands

Shoushtari on Monday dismissed the Bahraini officials' baseless claims about Iran's meddling in the country's domestic affairs, and stated, "Every day, the oppressed defenseless people of Bahrain are being detained by the Al Khalife forces and undergo the harshest forms and types of torture in extrajudicial prisons."

"The Bahraini authorities should meet their people's demands instead of accusing other countries," he added.

"Iran has never interfered in other countries' affairs," he said, adding that Iran believes that the people of Bahrain should have the right to choose their own fate and affairs.

He pointed to the recent attack on the house of the leading Shiite cleric, Sheikh Issa Ahmed Qassim, and underscored that suppression and torture are by no means and standard acceptable.
