Islamic Consultative Assembly News Agency – "The number of representatives of Islamic Consultative Assembly should be increased legally; the increase of MPs always was respected up to a decade ago but it is disregarded in recent periods", said Parvaneh Mafi, an Iranian reformist politician and a member of the Parliament of Iran representing Tehran, Rey, Shemiranat, Pardis and Eslamshahr electoral district.

"According to non-performance of law enforcement for increasing the number of MPs - adding twenty representatives for every ten years – number of MPs in the Iranian Parliament could be forty more than the current number which it is now 290", declared the member of Executives of Construction Party and Vice-President of the councils and internal affairs commission.

The Islamic Consultative Assembly also called the Iranian Parliament, the Iranian Majlis, or the People's House, is the national legislative body of Iran.

The Parliament currently has 290 representatives, changed from the previous 272 seats since the 18 February 2000 election. The most recent election took place on 26 February 2016 and the new parliament was opened on 28 May 2016. Next period will be hold in 2020.
