US made big mistakes in regional crisis: Boroujerdi

Boroujerdi made the remarks in a meeting with visiting member of the German Bundestag Johann David Wadephul in Tehran.

He said the negotiations of the Iranian and German parliaments play a pivotal role in settling the regional and international issues.

Touching upon the constructive position of Iran in Middle East and Germany in Europe, Boroujerdi underscored that the negotiations between the parliaments of the two countries is essential for reaching a mutual understanding and settling the regional crisis.

He said the Iranian and German parliaments enjoy vast capacities and potentials for boosting mutual ties.

Boroujerdi said the Iranian parliament welcomes expansion of relations with the German parliament.

Touching upon the spread of terrorism and extremism in the region and across the globe, he added the Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes any initiative or approach for tackling terrorism.

Tehran believes that the Syrian crisis should be settled through negotiations between the country's conflicting sides and without any foreign interference.

Throwing its weight behind the country’s missile program, Boroujerdi underlined that the country's missile program is aimed at boosting deterrence power to guarantee national security.

Wadephul, for his part, said Germany and Iran enjoy historic relations, reiterating that Berlin attaches great importance to expansion of all-out ties with Tehran.

Referring to the nuclear deal signed in July 2015 between Iran and the six world powers – known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the German official added all signatories of nuclear deal should fulfill their obligations.

He added Germany is keen on expanding trade and economic relations with Tehran.

The German official said the nuclear deal has opened a new chapter for expansion of cooperation between Iran and Europe.

Wadephul said Germany and Iran believe that the regional crisis should be settled without foreign meddling.

He stressed that the West mistake in Libya should not be repeated in other countries.

Wadephul also emphasized the need for boosting parliamentary relations between the two countries.
