Larijani: No military solution to Syria, Yemen crisis

Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven in Tehran.

He also described the Islamic Republic of Iran as a country where the highest-ranking officials to president and Majlis deputies are elected by people which is considered one of positive points of Iran’s constitution.

“As per Iran’s constitution, no country can dissolve the parliament and Majlis has the authority to impeach the ministers and even the president as they give them vote of confidence” Larijani said.

Larijani stressed that the Syrian crisis does not have a military solution, but national unity is considered as the best solution for ending the hostilities in that country.

He also described transit of narcotics as the other challenges facing the regional countries.

Referring to drug-related challenges that Tehran has been encountering, he added that the shipment of opium from the Pakistani and Afghan border areas have put a heavy burden on the economy of Iran.

Touching upon Iran’s vast capacities for reinforcing cooperation with Sweden, Larijain expressed hope that the level of mutual ties could be expanded in all arenas.

Lofven, for his part, called for expansion of all-out ties with Iran.

He also voiced the Swedish parliament willingness to amend cooperation with Iran. Swedish prime minister arrived in Tehran on Friday evening for an official three-day visit.
