Tehran, Feb 27, ICANA - A leading Iranian lawmaker here on Monday extended congratulation to prominent Iranian director Asghar Farhadi on winning the Oscar 2017.

Talking to ICANA, Spokesman of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Hossein Naqavi-Hosseini said that from the point of view of Farhadi the matter of national pride and nationalism were more important that attending the Oscar ceremony.   

He underlined that Farhadi's success belongs to the entire Iranian nation.

The lawmaker underscored that the language of art could connect the cultures and nations across the globe.

Touching upon Farhadi's special position among the artists across the world, he added the acclaimed Iranian director has managed to secure a consensus against US President Donald Trump by not attending in this year gala.

"Farhadi by not attending in Oscar indicated that the Iranian freedom-seeker artists would not be influenced by the bullying policies," he added.

Naqavi Hosseini also described art as a significant instrument to influence the world.

Following Trump’s executive order suspending travel from seven Muslim-majority countries, including Iran, Farhadi said that he would not attend the Oscar ceremony although he did not face a ban to enter the US.

During the 89th Academy Awards ceremony on Monday, well-known Iranian film director Asghar Farhadi won Oscar for the best foreign film for the second time.

The Oscar 2017 was presented to Farhadi’s “The Salesman".
