Portuguese envoy describes JCPOA as vital

The Portuguese envoy reiterated that Lisbon will be delighted to renovate bilateral trade relations back to level of pre-sanctions era with Tehran.

He also voiced the Portuguese government satisfaction over an increase in economic cooperation between the two countries after the nuclear deal officially known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The envoy underlined that the Islamic Republic of Iran is a significant and effective country in the region and establishment of stability and security in the region without Iran's participation in regional and international decision-making is not possible.

The ambassador also said that economic cooperation and joint investment projects, especially in the sector of energy is vital for Portugal and Lisbon is keen on reinforcing economic cooperation with Tehran.

Kavakebian, for his part, described the growing trend of economic and cultural relations between the two countries as positive.

The lawmaker said that there are suitable grounds in different sectors of economic and trade which should be employed aimed at boosting bilateral cooperation.

The Iranian and Portuguese officials also emphasized the need for expanding parliamentary, political and cultural ties.
